The Tech Industry Is So Bad I Would Rather Wash Glasses All Day

hi i’m delta. i’m the government assigned headmate that makes you good at work. i’m the work alter from severence. idk i haven’t watched that. i like my job.

anyway. i hate large language models. here’s why:

one: i have a loose grip on reality and if you sit me in front of a computer with the confirmation bias machine all day i might start to further lose my grip on reality

two: solving problems is fun and llms take away the fun part of the job

three: all innovations in computing nowadays are designed to turn the technomancer into an interchangeable programming unit. these technologies include: react, unity, and similar things that homogenize development of programs into one defacto standard process. llms are the result of this: if everyone is doing the same thing, you can create a machine to do the same thing, and then your labour becomes even more unskilled. you become a classifier: does ticket pass human review, if so, press the yes button, if not, press the no button. llms turn your job into Papers, Please.

four: yucky ew ew yucky. the vibes are off. men (the class) are a problem here. in tech people decide to stop… feeling? they don’t recognise the harm they do in anything, don’t recognise things like accessibility, aka “can your users fucking use your app, etc. llms are just a massive optimisation, they jump straight to perceived short-term revenue gain (we can fire all our staff, or we can make our staff work 10x, etc)

it just makes me think of other rich-man addled industries, e.g. ‘biohacking’. we all know the stereotype of biohacking, the gym boy that does ice water baths, steals his son’s blood, is experimenting with peptides, etc.

Bus advert for weight loss medication. Taglined ‘the weight is over’. I find this repulsive for reasons I can’t quite explain? It’s gross, right?

of course, there are exceptions. but every tech meetup i go to (there are a lot in my city) is addled with Claude (male) users. i can’t talk about web development outside of safe-havens like State Of The Browser because webdev is so permeated with low-effort slop (it’s the place where the most amount of code is required, and where effort is the least appreciated, i feel).

five: llms have singlehandedly ruined: forums, search engines, the ability to trust any information online, my will to enjoy my one true hobby, open source, my industry at large, the climate, the minds of hundreds, the lives of a growing few, etc,

is that enough reasons? i get paid £12.71 (convert?) an hour to wash glasses and clear tables all day. and i find my work more fulfulling than working with an llm. i get to go outside, talk to my people (trans women), i get to laugh and have fun with people in the real world. i can look them in the eyes and i can feel genuine human connection. i get to do things with my hands all day, i get to feel my body grow weak and tired, and then go home and rest. i get to feel. if you force your employees to use llms, i hope you don’t get to feel. you don’t deserve it. not for ruining my one true passion in life. i hope your money turns into sand and falls through the gaps between your fingers, i hope you experience the sound pollution that you are complicit in, i hope you experience the genuinely terrifying experience of losing your grip on reality. i love humans. try working with them, please. have you tried talking to them?
